What is a Perfect 10?
In NCAA gymnastics, a perfect 10.0 represents flawless execution. Judges evaluate routines based on:
- Start Value: Most routines start at 10.0 (based on difficulty requirements)
- Execution Deductions: Points deducted for form breaks, steps on landings, wobbles, etc.
- Artistry & Presentation: Especially important on floor and beam
A perfect 10 means both judges gave the routine a 10.0 with zero deductions—a rare achievement even among elite college gymnasts.
Historical Context
The 2025 NCAA season saw a significant increase in perfect 10s compared to previous years, with 30+ perfect scores earned before Valentine’s Day. The 2026 season is on a similar pace with 8 perfect 10s through the first five weeks of competition.
The most perfect 10s by a single gymnast in NCAA history is 28 by Courtney Kupets (Georgia, 2006-2009).
