OU Men's Gymnastics Team at 2016 NCAA Championships

GymnasticsVille co-hosts Remi Marvin and Midknight Robin interview the 2016 NCAA Gymnastics Assistant Coach of the Year for the University of Oklahoma, Taqiy Abdullah-Simmons. Taqiy led the Sooners to three NCAA team championships during his time at OU (2005, 2006 and 2008), and also captured the 2007 NCAA All-Around title, becoming the first African-American to accomplish this feat.

Taqiy spent two years working at Walt Disney World as part of the Festival of the Lion King. The Broadway style show is one of the most popular attractions at the park. More recently, he performed with Cirque Du Soleil in Orlando, Fla., in one of the world-famous company’s longest running shows.

Taqiy talks about the team staying motivated during the winning streak, and working with OU head coach Mark Williams, the best gymnastics coach currently in the United States, and the 2016 NCAA All-Around Champion Yul Moldauer.

Fresh off back-to-back NCAA Championships (2015, 2016), Coach Williams has his seventh team title in fifteen years with the program. The University of Oklahoma Men’s Gymnastics team has not lost a competition since April 11th of 2014. To date that is 2 years, 9 months, and 23 days since the OU men finished second place at NCAA Championships. For more information on the OU Men’s Gymnastics Team go to http://www.soonersports.com
